Richard Week 6 Snippet

There is an interesting picture in page 219. Marjane was displayed as the portrait of Dorian Gray. According to the story, Basil Hallward drew a very handsome picture named Dorian Gray. The portrait started to look more demonic as Dorian started to commit more sins. This panel will be the allusion to Dorian Gray. the panels had shown that Marjane's face was slowly consumed by darkness, similar to Dorian Gray's portrait. However, Marjane did not commit any sins. As her face was the only body part that was shown in the panel, she was disembodied. since she was in Vienna, she was an outsider to everyone else. As time goes by, she even feel that herself is an outsider.

For week six, I commented on Denitza's blog post. She was doing the Class Act section and I told her that she should cut down on the information and that I liked the reference to 1984.

David's Persepolis Blog Week Six: Literary Feature Hunt

For this week, I was able to find a literary feature on page 278 which invovled a mottif. The mottif that I was able to discover was love. Reza and Marjane meet for the first time and they hit it off right away. The reason why the literary feature is love is because previously in the graphic novel, love was shared between Marjane and others. The theme that could be used to describe this mottif is experiences make a person stronger.

I was very impressed with the discussions that were brought up this week. One that sticks out in my mind is on pages 250 and 251. Looking at how the two pages were similar and defining beauty.

For this week I commented on Megan's blog post and I I liked the way she was able to relate Persepolis to something she watched. I also said that she did a good job of looking at new ideas that have not been discussed in class.

David's Persepolis Blog Week Five: Snippets

On page 318, I thought that Marjane Satrapi did an excellent job of looking at two perspectives. In some ways, I feel that the panels can be considered as parodoxes because both women are married, but one agrees with everything her husband says while the other does not want to do that. Two examples that I saw that were similar to this snippet were on pages 104 and 193. It could be stated that those pages are more similar than page 318 because there is usage of telephones. The only difference between the two is that one has a black background with people mourning and the other has Marjane talking to her parents with a white background signifying happiness.

Today 's class was quite informative as I was able to understand a new concept. When Mr McGuigan was discussing how we see if a snippet is relavant, I learned that it is important to look and see if the idea or picture is reoccuring.
